I have suffered from Crohn’s Disease for most of my life. After two resection operations I was offered early retirement from my teaching career, which I took. I was three stone underweight and was still recovering from the last operation at the time. I thought I would easily get a new job but at the age of 50 with no regular income and with one interview in two years I was unable to find work. With two young children and the same overheads as when I was working I started to get into debt.
There comes a point where you simply have to do something for yourself and this was it.
I started trying natural methods to gain relief from my Crohn’s disease, including acupuncture and hypnotherapy. None of these worked for me but one day in 1997 a friend suggested I try drinking FLP Aloe Vera Gel as it had worked for her digestive disorder. I also suffered from acid reflux due to a hiatus hernia but since drinking the Gel that has gone away, never to return. Despite best efforts by varying vets my horse was really agitated by pollens throughout the dry season, so much so that riding him became impossible as he shook his head so violently. It was suggested to me I try him on 5 Bee Pollen tablets in conjunction with 200mls of Aloe Gel daily.
The effects were truly remarkable – within a week he was out hacking and back in work within a fortnight. Once his immune system was fortified with the Aloe Gel I was able to reduce the bee pollen tablets accordingly. I have been taking Aloe Vera for three years now. I was introduced to Aloe by a friend who noticed I was struggling when I got out of a chair. I told Elizabeth I also could not sleep with the pain in my leg, during the night.
Elizabeth gave me the phone no. of Margaret who was an agent for Forever Living the people who produce the Aloe Vera. Margaret explained which Aloe I would need - Forever Freedom - and I started to take it. First I took 60mls and gradually got up to 120mls. I am quite an impatient person so I expected things to work at once. Obviously it took about 4 weeks to start to give me relief. I now take 60mls each night to maintain my freedom from pain. But if I do start getting twinges I up my dosage until it subsides.
I have used many other Aloe products, (cream to soothe the effects of radiotherapy after cancer, moisturiser when my skin has felt sore or rough, tablets that have helped my immune system). My son cut his hands in the gym and used the same cream as I did when I had the radiotherapy and was quite surprised how well it healed. I would recommend these products to everyone as this firm only uses pure ingredients.

We first noticed a deterioration in Starsky’s general wellbeing in the Summertime when he reached the grand old age of six years plus. Suddenly he was not able to leap onto the furniture as usual. He could not get his hind legs up and onto the sofa. He would hang on with his front paws and struggle.
It was then we decided to use the ‘Aloe treatment’. We started sprinkling about 10/15mls on his evening meal. At this point he had lost a lot of weight – 800g, his usual weight being 1kg.
By Xmas he was not able to jump into his hutch without help although he could chase the cats and fellow rabbit around the garden and was very well and alert otherwise. We then gave him 15mls onto his lunchtime meal as well as evening and 2 dishes of water. One all water the other 2/3 water 1/3 Aloe. Both Starsky and Willow insisted on only drinking the water with Aloe.
At the beginning of the New Year, Starsky’s legs started to give way. My syringing a further 5mls direct into his mouth, this improved him further. I had a hysterectomy 11years ago and the surgeon came to see me in hospital and told me to put a patch on my bottom and take a drink which was Aloe Vera. He explained the patch was a hormone replacement and the drink was to make me feel better. I remember looking at the doctor and saying what – take all of the drink. No, he said just a small amount each morning, before food. So I did.
Three weeks later my world fell apart. I was told I had a growth in my bowel. Visions of nurses, operations loomed in my mind, but as usual, I put everything to the back of my mind! I continued to put patches on my body, drink the Aloe Vera and ignored letters from the hospital!
Six months later, I found I could no longer, out of courtesy, ignore letters from the hospital, so attended for a Barium Enema. The Surgeon who had performed my hysterectomy was called in by the Doctor performing the enema. Neither of them could believe the television screen showing my bowel – IT WAS CLEAR!!!
I don’t think it really struck me as I had buried my head for 6 months, and thought yeah so what, I’m O.K. I told them to, well I can’t say what I said! Just knew I was alright. I felt O.K. energetic. No weight gain, no depression, no hot flushes! What do Doctors know! Arrogance, ignorance or plain if I don’t think about it – it’s not there!!!
It was only when a few years later when the patches stopped working, I attended my GP and she told me there was an INPLANT HRT I could get but not on the NHS. I’d have to go to a private hospital. I did and met another gynaecologist. He asked what medication, other than the HRT patches was I on. Nothing I said. He persisted. Only this yukky drink called Aloe Vera. I remember the big smile. That’s most probably it. An inner healing, so to speak, or a miracle. I didn’t care or know, I just kept drinking the stuff. I was so used to it, kept it in the fridge, I used to drink it like tea. Graze on it if you know what I mean?
Years later, I heard Margaret Allin talk about Aloe Vera and discovered toothpaste, deodorant, gelly, ginkgo, propolis, pollen. I am still active, full of energy, love food, no bowel problems. Since say 1997 I couldn’t eat tomatoes or strawberries. I would say it’s the chemicals put in the soil. If for whatever reason I do eat a tomato based dish, I erupt in hives.
